Science 37 is a Los Angeles based venture which has developed a novel clinical trial operating model, which uses mobile technology to allow patients to participate in the trial from their homes. The company has designed a secure and compliant patient-centric technology platform for clinical trial data collection, remote electronic consent, document storage, patient engagement and secure video conferencing between patients and physicians.
How they’re disrupting
With 15-20% of clinical trials never enrolling a single patient, research organizations must find innovative methods to recruit participants and conduct trials. By removing significant barriers like geography, Science 37 hopes to improve participation levels and accelerate clinical trials worldwide.
Revenue for research organisations serving the pharmaceutical industry expected to exceed $65 billion by 2021.
Investments and future
Science 37’s CEO Noah Craft was named in Medical Marketing & Media’s Top 40 Healthcare Transformers list in 2016. The startup completed its $6.5m Series A funding round in October 2015 led by dRx Capital and Lux Capital. The technology is now being used by multiple sponsors, including an undisclosed US pharmaceutical company for a phase III FDA-registered trial in a rare disease.
